There is one thing in landscape photography that is of the utmost importance. This can be the difference between a print-worthy portfolio image and relegating a failed image to the darkest depths of a hard drive.

There are two sides to landscape photography.

This is an image of a rock, but it is More Than a Rock to me. The mystery of the rock drew me into taking this photograph.

Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is just get out. Grabbing the gear and heading out always feels better, even if it’s a nearby local spot.

It is this process that I have begun to love—a sense of meditation of sorts. To just wander and let my surroundings dictate what my next image will be.
