Reflection.
This may be the first image I have ever taken with a story in mind. This is a recent image as well. I am not typically the type of person who has a message or a meaning to my images. My “why” for creating an image is pure enjoyment. The motivation is almost always that I find something interesting, and that, for me, is enough reason to make the image.
On this day, as I walked past this fallen tree on the Little Big Econ River and saw the reflections across the way, I knew there was something more here. A story of “Reflection”. A story of looking back on what once was, or could have been.
There is, of course, as with most things, more than one interpretation that could be made. It could be a tale of “youth wasted on the young”. An old tree looking back and wishing it had known then what it knows now. Or a more hopeful tale of looking at the future. The youth of today, full of promise and potential to make the world a better place. Or even a simple whisper of time gone by. A fond memory of past days. A time when nothing seemed to matter, and the world was at your feet.
Whatever it may be, I felt compelled to try and share this story. Or perhaps more accurately, to stir up a story in you. A moment to pause and look back at the good times and to remember them fondly. To take what you know now and to make a bright and hopeful future for yourself. A reminder that it is never too late to grow.
