The Message.

Overthinking things. This is something I have never been accused of. I am, at the end of the day, a very simple person. And this is true in my photography as well.  I have read the articles and watched countless YouTube videos, all of which tell you to consider the meaning or motivation behind your images. Or to “find your why”. I have heard the argument that your images need to tell a story.  I have agonized over this bombardment of information for far too long. Trying to figure out the deep meaning in my work, what earth-shattering revelation am I trying to impart? What is the point of the art that I create?

I like it! That is the point! It’s that simple, I make the images I make because I like them. I enjoy the process of creating them. I enjoy the way I feel when I find the scene or subject I want to photograph. I find them calming, relaxing, and enjoyable. Often, they are quite simple themselves. If I am to be honest, there is very seldom any deep meaning behind the images I create. Heck, most of them have no real “meaning” at all. It is not that there is no thought at all, but the motivation for me is mostly admiration. The resilience of nature, the intricacy, the beauty. My images are a reaction to how a subject makes me feel, or a simple curiosity about it.

If there is a message in my photography, it is this. The world is a beautiful place.
